STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

 

         Since its inception in 1986, Grenfell Architecture has been solely committed to the practice of traditional architecture. Our work might also be characterized as classical, in as much as it manifests the “highest and most enduring expressions of an artistic tradition.” Since buildings shape and are shaped by the environments around them, all our work deliberately engages the fields of landscape, gardens and urbanism. Thus our work ranges in scale from garden pavilions to whole villages, and across a wide range of building types and architectural styles.

         We are particularly focused on residential and religious architecture – houses for people and houses for God. Behind both types are clients who care deeply about the projects and believe that these types are about something other than money. Of course all architecture should seek economy and durability, but these building types also seek that great transcendental at the heart of our practice – beauty.

         In service to beauty, we believe that our skilled use of ornament and decoration is essential, and when used will impart dignity and delight to the most mundane aspects of human life, to its most exalted.
